Discovering Uncommon Plants From Homedepot.com!

As you may have seen in my post, “Uncommon Plants Found At Big Box Stores“, many big box retailers are making hard-to-find plants more accessible to their customers. Recently, I discovered and placed an order for some uncommon plants from Homedepot.com.

Xanthosoma (caladium) Lindenii

Xanthosoma (Caladium) lindenii is relatively new to the commercial houseplant scene. If you have a weakness for dark green leaves and striking white veins, then this plant is for you!

While they are not cultivated extensively, they are commercially available in the United States from Costa Farms. It’s the same grower that I purchased my Alocasia Silver Dragon from.

I learned about this particular plant while watching Youtube. Apparently, some Home Depot locations stock these plants, but, of course, that rarely (or never) happens in my area.

However, I did decide to make a foray onto the Home Depot website, just to take a quick look. Lo and behold, it was for sale from Costa Farms, and with free shipping!

Rhaphidophora hayi

I never thought I would find a shingling plant through Home Depot’s website, but here’s the proof!

Not only is it offered for sale with free shipping, but two plants are included in one pot!

Of course, I would highly recommend separating them and potting them into their own pots with their own planks to climb. And you would want to do this early on, before the plants get too big.

These plants are also sold by Costa Farms.

Philodendron Burle Marx

Also available on the Home Depot website is the Philodendron Burle Marx. These are not very hard to come by, so I would recommend shopping around for a bargain before committing to buy from Home Depot. Etsy and eBay are also good places to compare prices.

Like the previous two plants, the Burle Marx that you receive will be quite large. With the exception of a few yellowed leaves, it has otherwise arrived in good shape with minimal damage.
